¡¡¡¡Tenneco Tongtai (Dalian£© Exhaust System Co., Ltd. (DWMC)was
established in May of 1996.It is a sino-American joint venture
with automobile exhaust systems as its core products. The American
partner-Tenneco Automotive is one of the largest manufacturers
of automobile exhaust systems, shock absorbers and related parts.
Walker, the subsidiary of Tenneco, established in 1888,is one
of the main market leaders in designing and producing automobile
exhaust systems and related parts in the world. The main products
of Walker are mufflers, converters, manifolds and other parts
for exhaust systems. In addition, Walker can also supply high-quality
mufflers with electronic technology. In 1994,Tenneco successfully
acquired Heinrich Gillet GmbH, and became one of the largest
exhaust system manufacturers in the world. The Chinese partner-Jinzhou
Auto Parts General Factory has been in exhaust system business
for more than 20 years and its production capacity is among
the best within China.
¡¡¡¡The total phase one investment of DWMC is US$ 9,000,000, of
which, American partner holds 60% of the share. There are over
590 employees in the company. DWMC has passed ISO9002, QS9000
and VDA6.1 in 1997¡¢1999 and 2000 respectively.
¡¡¡¡Dalian Walker Changchun Plant, as a JIT plant of Dalian
Walker was established in 2001. The aim of the establishment
is to satisfy the JIT requirement of OE customers and reduce
transport cost.
Team Building 
¡¡¡¡The company has taken various measures to train the employees
and to improve their quality and skills. By the end of 2002,
more than 30 persons/times have been sent to Germany and the
United States for training of management or engineering. After
years¡¯ efforts, the company has built a strong employee team,
consisting of people at different levels, qualified, and teamwork
focused.
Investment
¡¡¡¡Progressive development is the company¡¯s guiding
strategy of investment. By the end of 2002, the company has
built up three muffler lines, several bending cells centered
on multi-stack CNC benders, several assembly welding lines and
two converter lines, with key equipment such as lock seamers,
multi-stack CNC tube benders, automatic welding machines, robotic
welders, and the imported canning equipment, which are the representative
of the current level of advanced technology worldwide. The total
number of major equipment has increased from 91 in 1996 to 400,
and that of key equipment has also risen up to 60 from 7. The
process capacity of the company has also been upgraded to the
top industry level on national market.
